Italian police on Thursday made 36
arrests in a probe into Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia drug
trafficking through the huge Calabrian containter port of Gioia
Tauro, through which the Calabrian Mob moves most of the cocaine
it brings to Italy from South America.
Those arrested are charged with international narcotics
trafficking aggravated by mafia methods.
Arrests were made across the country in connection with the
latest probe into 'Ndrangheta, Italy's richest and most powerful
mafia thanks to its control of the European cocaine trade.
The tax police operation, as well as hitting the Reggio Calabria
area, also involved the provinces of Milan, Rome, Naples, Bari,
Terni, Vicenza and Novara.
