Around 12.7% of Italian pupils drop
out of school before they get to do their high-school diploma,
Save the Children Italia said in a report on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the report said that 9.7% of Italy's high-school
graduates in 2022 did not have the "basic skills" that they
should have attained.
It said 23,1% of 15-to-29-year-olds in Italy were not in
education, employment or training (NEET), the highest proportion
in the EU and double the rates of France and Germany.
The report called on the government to increase spending on
public education to 93 billion euros a year, compared to the 71
billion allocated to it in 2020, in order to reach the European
average of 5% of GDP.
