A 46-year-old drunk and drugged-up
Italian police officer killed a 20-year-old man on a scooter
with his car in Rome at dawn Wednesday, sources said Thursday.
The officer had been suspended from duty for some time, they
said.
He failed an alcohol and drugs tests after the accident and has
been charged with vehicular homicide aggravated by DUI.
The victim, Simone Sperduti, died instantly, medical sources
said.
An autopsy has nonetheless been ordered.
The accident happened in Via Prenestina, one of the Italian
capital's major thoroughfares.
The officer has not been named.
