Italy's privacy regulator said
Thursday that the number of personal-data breaches registered in
2021 in Italy was 2,071, an increase of around 50% with respect
to 2020.
The watchdog said many of these cases regarded breaches of
health data and led to penalties for the private and public
entities responsible for them.
The authorities stressed the need for private firms and public
bodies to invest in cybersecurity, highlighting the spread of
ransomware software as one of the biggest threats.
