Italy registered 255,442 new COVID-19
cases in the June 15-21 period, a rise of 58.9% with respect to
the previous week, the GIMBE medical foundation said in its
weekly coronavirus monitoring report on Thursday.
It said the number of COVID sufferers in intensive care rose by
12.6% to 206 on June 21, while the number in ordinary hospital
wards increased by 14.4% to 4,803.
It said 16 provinces had an incidence of over 500 cases for
every 100,000 inhabitants.
COVID-linked deaths, however, were down 19% in the week in
question, falling from an average of 59 a day to 48.
