ISTAT said Monday that the number of
people in employment in Italy increased by 338,000 in the second
quarter with respect to the previous three months and by 523,000
compared to the same period in 2020.
The rise was driven by an increase of 226,000 in the number of
people working under temporary contracts, the national
statistics agency said.
It added, however, that employment levels were still down by
678,000 compared to the equivalent period in 2019, before the
COVID-19 pandemic.
ISTAT said Italy's unemployment rate for 15-to-74-year-olds who
are active on the labour market was 9.8% in the second quarter,
down 0.3 of a percentage point with respect to the first quarter
and by 1.7 points compared to the same period in 2020.
