Another Carabiniere police
officer has been put under investigation in relation to the
death in custody of Rome draughtsman Stefano Cucchi in 2009,
sources said Monday.
The suspect is Major Luciano Soligo, who at the time was the
commander of the Talenti Montesacro company of the force in
Rome.
He is probed over allegedly making false declarations along
with two other Carabinieri, Massimiliano Colombo and Francesco
Di Sano.
During the trial of five other Carabinieri over Cucchi's
death, Di Sano said he had to modify a statement on Cucchi's
health condition due to an order from above.
There was a breakthrough in the case earlier this month when
prosecutors announced one of the suspects had said two of his
colleagues were responsible for the beating that led to the
death.
