Newspaper publishers' union
FIEG and journalists' union FNSI on Thursday decided to extend
the existing collective contract for journalists until an
agreement on a new contract is reached.
"FIEG has taken note of the considerable differences with
FNSI in negotiations for the renewal of the national collective
contract for journalists," the newspaper publishers' union said
in a statement.
The parties have "agreed on the need to continue
discussions, sharing the intention not to interrupt the
negotiations underway".
In the meantime, the existing collective contract - which
originally expired on March 31 before being extended to
September 30 - will continue to be valid, FIEG said.
The union is calling for a new contract that meets
publishing companies' new demands for flexibility and efficiency
in response to the recent crisis and profound transformation
affecting the media sector.
