A 28-year-old police officer
was killed and a colleague injured in the night between Tuesday
and Wednesday when a van driver hit their stationary car on the
A4 Turin-Milan highway near the northern city of Novara.
The van driver also died while a fourth person involved in
the accident reported injuries.
The dead policeman's colleague, aged 35, is being treated
at a hospital in Novara.
Last night's accident was the third to be reported on the
A4 in just a few days.
A large lorry near Rondissone, Turin, last Friday ran over
and killed a Moroccan couple and injured their three children,
including a newborn.
The lorry driver was found to be under the influence of
alcohol.
Two nights later, Marco Belfiore, a 60-year-old civil
protection officer travelling northwards from the quake-hit
Lazio town of Amatrice died after his jeep overturned near the
northern towns of Saluggia and Rondissone.
