Thieves stole
computers overnight from a middle school opened September 14 as
the first tangible sign of the rebirth of the Marche village of
Acquasanta Terme after the devastating August 24 earthquake in
central Italy, Mayor Sante Stangoni said Wednesday. He said "I
am indignant at this act of despicable looting. We are
struggling not to let the village die, we're doing everything
every day, then you have people in Italy like this, who have no
shame...". The earthquake flattened villages in Lazio and Marche
and killed 297 people. Thousands of people were made homeless,
also in the adjoining regions of Umbria and Abruzzo.
