A boat skipper was cited for
attempted extortion and bodily harm after he took two American
tourists from a hotel out to sea, then demanded 50 euros to
bring them back.
The two, a mother and son, dove into the water and swam 40
meters to the shore, where hotel staff rescued them and took
them to hospital.
They were given 15 and 20 days' prognoses.
Police tracked down the skipper, a 33-year-old from the
town of Piano di Sorrento, finding him in a state of
drunkenness.
The incident took place yesterday evening off the seaside
town of Castellammare di Stabia in the Bay of Naples.
The tourists left Italy this morning.
