A huge reason for Italy's
brain drain is widespread corruption, national anti-corruption
czar Raffaele Cantone said Friday.
His National Anti-Corruption Agency (ANAC) is "overwhelmed"
with reports of corruption in Italy's universities, Cantone
said.
"The university should set an example," Cantone said.
"Unfortunately we're not high in international rankings, and one
of the reasons for that is a number of sticky red tape issues...
Everyone abroad thinks our universities are bureaucratic
three-ring circuses, and we are well aware how much appearances
count. And this appearance does our country great harm".
