A total of 2,776 survivors from
seven municipalities across three provinces are living in 12
tent camps in the aftermath of last week's devastating
earthquake in central Italy, Civil Protection Department sources
said Wednesday.
Of these, 1,048 are in Ascoli Piceno, 444 in Fermo and
1,284 in Macerata provinces.
The displaced come from the villages and hamlets of
Acquasanta, Amandola, Arquata del Tronto, Castelsantangelo sul
Nera, Montegallo, Montemonaco and Montefortino.
The overall number could rise in the coming hours, the
sources said.
The number of survivors lodging with friends or relatives,
or who left the area altogether because they were on holiday in
their summer houses when the quake struck, is unknown.
