Two local police officers in
Catanzaro in the Calabria region of southern Italy were attacked
and injured by eight immigrants outside a hospital on Tuesday as
they sought to discourage illegal parking attendants.
One of the group, a 30-year-old from Gambia, was arrested
for causing injury, for resisting officers and for insulting a
public official, the local municipality said.
Authorities said the attack by the group appeared
premeditated. The eight immigrants assaulted the officers,
refusing to leave the area where they wanted to resume their
work as unofficial parking attendants. One of the group used a
large stone to hit the police, injuring them.
