About 525 municipalities in Italy,
and three million Italians, have been classed as "garbage-free"
in a recent report by green group Legambiente which praises
those parts of the country that are managing to reduce
non-recyclable waste to a minimum.
The north of the country is leading the way, with 413
municipalities, or 79% of the total. The south follows with 87
and then the centre of the country with 25.
Veneto tops the list of regions, with 35% of the "garbage
free" municipalities, followed by Friuli Venezia Giulia (29%),
Trentino-Alto Adige (17%) and Campania (9%).
