A man who burned to death his former
girlfriend in Rome at the weekend said in his confession that he
"couldn't stand it being over". Vincenzo Paduano reportedly
broke down in tears as he confessed to the murder of Sara Di
Pietrantonio. They had started going out two and a half years
ago and broke up several times before getting back together.
Them a few weeks ago, Sara started going out with someone else
and that tipped Paduano into a murderous rage, police said.
Paduano, 27, was arrested for killing university student Di
Pietrantonio, 22, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Prosecutors said he confessed to lying in wait for Di
Pietrantonio at her new boyfriend's home, following her in his
car, forcing her off the road, dousing her and the car with
alcohol and lighting it up. She managed to escape on foot, but
Paduano ran her down and set her on fire too.
