The Neapolitan Camorra crime
syndicate has reportedly threatened Naples anti-mafia prosecutor
Alessandro D'Alessio, according to a wiretap dating back to
March and released on Tuesday.
In the wiretap, two members of the family of Augusto La
Torre, a detained Camorra boss from Mondragone, near Caserta,
say they want to kill the magistrate.
The conversation, which is part of a probe carried out by
Rome prosecutors, reportedly took place in a maximum-security
jail in Piedmont between a woman who belongs to the clan and a
nephew.
Investigators believe that members of the powerful Camorra
Casalese clan want to reorganize the group originally headed by
La Torre, who graduated in psychology in prison and has in the
past issued threats against Raffaele Cantone, the head of
anti-corruption authority ANAC.
Anti-mafia prosecutor Cesare Sirignano, responsible for
investigations into the Casalesi clan, has also received
threats, according to reports this week.
The reports follow the discovery in the southern Puglia
region of TNT to be allegedly used in an attack against another
Naples prosecutor, Giovanni Colangelo.
