Police conducted an anti-drug
operation with hundreds of officers on Tuesday that they said
dismantled three different criminal groups and netted 30 people
accused of involvement in drug dealing in the Puglia city of
Taranto.
Of the 30 suspects, five were put in jail, with police
unable to find the sixth person ordered to jail; 21 were placed
on house arrest; and three were issued mandatory residency
orders.
"The drug dealing was organised on an industrial scale,"
said Taranto police chief Stanislao Schimera.
"During the course of the investigation more than 15
kilograms of drugs were seized. The arrested had links with
members of criminal groups in Calabria and Bari".
