A carjacking suspect was killed
when a police officer allegedly fired his gun by accident,
shooting the suspect in the back as the officer attempted to
handcuff him, local carabinieri sources said Thursday.
The suspect, Antonio Mannalà, died on the scene in Cardito.
He was stopped for allegedly stealing a car in Casalnuovo
di Napoli, along with two accomplices, from a couple in their
twenties Wednesday night.
One of the three carjacking suspects, Domenico Gallo, a
25-year-old resident of Afragola, was taken into custody, while
the third suspect remains armed and at large, police said.
The North Naples prosecutor's office has opened an
investigation into the shooting.
