The security crisis in the Red Sea
has caused 8.8 billion euro in damage to Italian foreign trade
since November 2023, self-employed craftsmen and artisans group
Confartigianato said on Thursday.
This is the equivalent of 95 million euro a day, of which 35
million euro in lost exports and 60 million euro in lost
supplies.
The impact of disruptions in the Red Sea due to attacks against
civilian ships by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen will be
felt particularly in the northern regions of Lombardy, Emilia
Romagna, Veneto, Tuscany, Piedmont and Friuli Venezia Giulia,
which transport goods respectively worth 12.9 billion euro, 9.4
billion euro, 5.7 billion euro, 4.7 billion euro, 4.2 billion
euro and 2 billion euro through one of the world's busiest
shipping lanes.
There is a risk of "heavy consequences on Italy's economic
growth" warned Confartigianato President Marco Granelli.
