The recent credit crunch is getting
worse across Italy, the Bank of Italy aid Thursday.
Banks are tightening credit standards for businesses and
households across the country and demand for loans and mortgages
is falling, said the central bank's regional bank lending survey
for the first half of 2023.
"Credit supply policies for businesses have tightened," it is
explained, "and this has been affected by the greater perception
of risk by intermediaries and the increase in funding costs",
while "the reduction in demand for business credit has
intensified".
Even for households, the criteria "have tightened" and for
mortgages "the conditions applied have worsened".
