Airbnb said Wednesday that it has
reached an agreement with the Italian inland revenue, l'Agenzia
delle Entrate, to pay 576 million euros to settle a tax dispute
regarding the period from 2017 to 2021.
The case regards the failure to collect the 'cedolare' tax on
the income of owners of the properties rented out on a short
term basis.
Airbnb said it will not seek to recover the unpaid taxes from
hosts for this period.
The San Francisco-based short rental platform said that it was
"continuing constructive discussions" with the authorities
regarding taxes in Italy for the 2022-2023 period.
"Italy is an important market for Airbnb," it said.
In November an Italian court had ordered the seizure of 779
million euros from Airbnb and three former officials over
alleged tax evasion.
