Europe's new Stability and growth pact
needs to include a transitional period for debt and deficit
reduction to take into account the exceptional circumstances
represented by the present international scenario and strategic
goals, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Friday on
the sidelines of the ECOFIN meeting in Brussels.
"Italy's position is the same as always, namely that we live in
exceptional circumstances and that a transitional period is
needed" for debt and deficit reduction that "takes them into
account", said Giorgetti.
Likewise, the pact needs to take into account "the strategic
goals that the EU has given itself in terms of security, the
environment, energy and the digital (transition)", he added.
