Next winter will be difficult for the
energy market unless the gas-price cap that the Italian
government is calling for is imposed at the EU level, Eni CEO
Claudio Descalzi said on Wednesday.
"This winter won't be easy without a gas-price cap because we'll
have the volume, but bills will be high for companies and
consumers and one mustn't forget the speculative distortion of
the market," Descalzi said
The head of the Italian energy giant said that Premier Mario
Draghi was right to "keep pushing" for a gas-price cap.
"Given that we still have Russian gas coming in, the problem for
the winter is not the flows, but the prices," he said.
"That's why it's important for Draghi to keep pushing.
"We have a price that is six-seven times higher than in 2019 for
no good reason".
