The office of Premier Mario Draghi
said Thursday that the government is not raising taxes on
Italians or touching their homes.
""The government is not increasing taxes. The government has no
intention of increasing taxes. Premier Draghi has declared this
commitment on several occasions since the start of his mandate,
in Parliament, in public meetings, at international summits and
also in various meetings with the leaders of the majority
(parties).
"In the case of the fiscal enabling law Premier Draghi
specified, also recently, that the measure does not entail
increases in the fiscal levy on property that has been properly
registered.
"No one will pay more taxes. The government is not touching the
homes of Italians".
Earlier Thursday rightwing League party leader Matteo Salvini
said he would meet Draghi and President Sergio Mattarella on
alleged planned tax hikes, saying he was confident "we will find
a solution".
Draghi's office said he would meet centre-right leaders next
week.
