Italy's annual inflation rate climbed
to 3.9% in December, the highest level since August 2008,
according to final data released by ISTAT on Monday.
The inflation rate was 3.7% in November.
The national statistics agency said its consumer price index was
up 0.4% in month-on-month terms in December.
ISTAT said its 'trolley index' of everyday goods such as food
and household items was up sharply, rising from 1.2% in November
to 2.4% last month.
