Italy is investing in sustainability
with the 200 billion euro post-COVID EU funded National Recovery
and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the minister for infrastructure and
sustainable mobility, Enrico Giovannini, told an event at Expo
Dubai 2020 Friday.
Intervening virtually at the forum "Sustainable, Connected and
Safe Communities" organized by the University of Bari Aldo Moro
at the Italian Pavilion, Giovannini said "the theme of
sustainability is at the centre of the whole world's policies,
but it is also at the centre of the strategies planned by
companies and businesses, not only large but also medium sized.
"Italy is going through this transformation with an incredible
dynamism by its firms but also by towns, cities and regions and
the whole of the country.
"The government is putting many resources into the
transformation of the social and economic system towards
sustainability."
He added that "connecting people and making them safer and more
secure is one of the central goals of the Italian government".
The minister also stressed the importance of cyber-security,
saying it "must be absolutely assured so as to have a robust
system".
Giovannini also said that universities "are playing a
fundamental role in fostering innovation".
