Industrial production in Italy
recovered slightly in May compared to April thanks to lockdown
easings but was still 33.8% down on the same month in 2019, the
study centre of industrial employers' group Confindustria, CSC,
said Monday.
Output had been 44.3% down in April, the CSC said.
In month-on-month terms there was a 31.4% rebound in May,
compared to a 24.2% fall in April.
The acquired variation of industrial production in the second
quarter is 27.7% down on the first quarter, when it was 8.4%
down on the last quarter of 2019.
There is the risk of "the explosion of a social emergency"
the CSC added.
It called for "adequate intervention to spur a restart of the
productive system".
