A court in Veneto had banned noisy
cockerels from a farmyard on the outskirts of a town near Venice
within earshot of urban residents.
The Veneto regional administrative court (TAR) upheld rulings by
Venice city council and a local environmental health agency
saying the cocks' crows were detrimental to the health of the
outlying inhabitants of Mestre.
The farmer has been banned from keeping cocks but can keep hens
- no more than 50 at a time, the TAR ruled.
