The government allegedly ignored the
Italian Bishops Conference's (CEI) views on its controversial
plans to reform the premiership for directly elected heads of
government and to boost regional autonomy allegedly worsening
the north south gap, CEI chief Cardinal Matteo Zuppi said
Wednesday.
On the premiership move, Zuppi said, instead of the executive
allegedly ramming it through parliament, "I responded with a
recommendation for everyone and I will reiterate it, if we want
them to last (the reforms ed.) they must have everyone's
involvement, let's all try to do what we can to make it so".
On the other reform that has just been approved also, Zuppi
said: "on differentiated autonomy we made an official document,
what we had to say we have said, you can see that they did not
take us seriously, what should we do?"
As well as being CEI chief, Bologna Archbishop Zuppi is Pope
Francis's Ukraine peace envoy.
