Italian Coast Guard ship Dattilo on
Tuesday recovered three bodies in the area of Monday's shipwreck
about a hundred kilometres off the Calabrian coast of a sailing
boat that had set sail eight days earlier from Turkey and which
left some 60 people missing including 26 children according to
survivors.
It was the second worst recent migrant disaster in Italy after
the February 2023 shipwreck at Cutro in Calabria in which at
least 94 migrants including 35 children died.
In addition to the ship, two Coast Guard patrol boats have been
patrolling the area in search of the missing.
The hull of the half-sunken but still afloat sailing ship has
also been inspected, but nothing has been found. The search
continues.
The disaster occurred just inside the Italian search and rescue
(SAR) zone.
