Italy had 1,129 strikes in 2023,
almost 40% of them in the transport sector, the national strike
guarantor said Tuesday.
In 2023 there was a "substantially stable trend compared to the
previous year" with 1,649 strikes proclaimed (1,618 in 2022) of
which 1,129 were 1,129 were carried out (one more than in 2022),
and "in sharp decrease on a ten-year basis (2,330 proclamations
in 2012, with 1,375 strikes carried out)", said the president of
the Guarantee Commission for the implementation of the law on
strikes in essential public services, Paola Bellocchi, in her
annual report.
Of the 1,649 strike calls, 639 were in the passenger transport
sector (air, rail, maritime, local), with 449 strikes made
(almost 40 per cent).
