AC Milan have appointed Paulo Fonseca
as their new coach, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a senior advisor for
club owners RedBird, announced on Thursday.
"Milan's new coach will be Paulo Fonseca," Ibrahimovic told a
news conference. "We studied it well. We chose him to bring his
identity and the way we want the team to play, with a dominant,
offensive style of play.
"Fonseca is the right man. We are confident and we believe in
him a lot".
The 51-year-old Portuguese coach's former clubs include AS Roma
and Shakhtar Donetsk.
He has been in charge of Lille for the last two years, leading
them to a fourth-placed finish in the French top flight in the
2023-24 campaign.
Milan parted company with Stefano Pioli after a winless campaign
last season. "We wanted to bring in something new," Ibra
continued.
"We studied how he (Fonseca) coaches, how he prepares matches.
After five years we needed something new".
