Italian aerospace and defence giant
Leonardo is in contact with two other interlocutors regarding
other industrial collaboration programmes for the so-called
'Main Battle Tank' (MBT), a new combat tank model for the
Italian army, sources said Wednesday.
According to the well-informed sources, this comes after the
Italian state-owned company broke off negotiations with the
German KNDS for the joint configuration of an MBT programme.
The reason behind interrupting the collaboration was reportedly
the German company's intention to supply the Leopard 2 tanks
with its standard technology, without further upgrades, despite
the fact that the vehicle is to last until 2035.
