President Sergio Mattarella on Monday
said there could not be any difference between the importance of
security for NATO's northern flank and that of its southern one.
"Italy participates in leading missions aimed at garrisoning the
north-eastern flank, as part of a renewed vitality and force of
attraction of NATO, also witnessed by the recent accession of
Finland and Sweden. It also requires an ability to read the
risks and threats - including hybrid and unconventional ones
posed by the international condition - that is not filtered
through a single prism of interpretation," he said at the
Carabinieri Mobile and Specialised Units Command "Palidoro" for
a NATO Conference.
"There can be no separation between the security of the northern
flank and the security of the southern flank of the Alliance".
