The European Court of Human Rights has
partially accepted the appeal filed by the family of Giuseppe
Uva, a 43-year-old man from Varese whose death in 2008 was at
the centre of a judicial case that saw two carabinieri and six
police officers charged and then acquitted at all three levels
of the trial.
Two reasons were accepted that led the ECHR to assign the file
to an internal section: Uva was allegedly subjected to inhuman
and degrading mistreatment in violation of Article 3 of the
European Convention on Human Rights, and the Italian State did
not do enough to ascertain the facts.
