The extraordinary administration of
the former Ilva steelworks in Taranto now called Accaierie
d'Italia (AdI) is to be extended to other companies, Business
and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso said on Thursday.
"I am preparing to accept commissioner (Giancarlo) Quaranta's
request to extend the extraordinary administration to other
companies in the group," said Urso.
On Tuesday the government put AdI under extraordinary
administration after talks with ArcelorMittal, the majority
stakeholder, over the future of the struggling plant broke down
and appointed Quaranta, an engineer with long experience in the
steel industry, as the extraordinary commissioner to run it.
Quaranta is to meet with the leaders of Italy's main trade union
confederations, CGIL, CISL and UIL, in Taranto on Monday and
then with representatives of companies in the supply chain.
Meanwhile, Urso said the government is look at how to relaunch
production at the site.
