Alexei Navalny's death is an internal
affair and accusations against Moscow over the opposition
leader's death in a Siberian prison are unacceptable, the
Russian embassy in Rome said Wednesday after the Italian foreign
ministry told the Russian ambassador that Italy expects full
clarity to be shed on the case.
Navalny's death, the embassy said after Ambassador Alexei
Paramonov was summoned to the Farnesina, "is an internal affair
that concerns only Russia, which is carrying out the necessary
tests and investigations to identify the real causes of the
accident".
"The ambassador," read a note, "was shown some politically
biased assessments of the Russian domestic political situation".
On the Russian side, "it was emphasised that attempts by
Westerners to politically instrumentalise Navalny's death, as
well as to make accusations of various kinds against Moscow, are
useless and unacceptable".
