The Trieste Public Prosecutor's Office
on Wednesday ordered the exhumation of the body of Liliana
Resinovich, a 63-year-old woman who disappeared from her home in
Trieste on 14 December 2021 and was found dead on 5 January 2022
with two plastic bags tied around her head and whose death was
initially ruled a suicide.
There have since been reports that she had been planning to run
away with a male friend.
The exhumation was said to be "opportune" by a forensic
anthropologist, Cristina Cattaneo, who had been commissioned by
the Prosecutor's Office to draw up a medico-legal report to shed
light on Resinovich's death.
Investigators have said they are hoping for a breakthrough in
the case.
