The government's new security package
includes prison terms of u to six years for for riots in prisons
or migrant processing pre-removal centres (CPRs), Interior
Minister Matteo Piantedosi told a press conference after the
measures were approved by cabinet Thursday.
He recalled that in the past facilities for the detention of
migrants have often been the scene of fires and acts that have
endangered the safety of the detainees themselves.
Rioting in Italian prisons increased in recent years, especially
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
