Italy led the EU for the amount of
value added tax evaded in 2021 nut also posted the greatest
improvement in the Union, the Euroepean Commission said Tuesday.
VAT evaded in the EU in 2021 amounted to €61 billion, an
improvement of around €38 billion compared to 2020.
Among the member states, Italy is the country with the highest
level of VAT evaded, for 14.6 billion euros, but it is also the
one that has recorded an unprecedented improvement and the
largest in the Union, with a reduction of 10.7%.
The data emerged in the Commission's study on the 'VAT gap', the
estimate of the difference between the theoretical expected
revenue and the amount actually collected.
