A fire caused by an air conditioner
short-circuit on Wednesday damaged the upholstery in the former
papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo near Rome, the
director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni, told ANSA.
The flames spread through the Papal Palace, he said.
he former summer residence of the Popes became a museum in 2016
at the behest of Pope Francis.
The overall extent of the damage, including the works and
artefacts of art on the site, is still being assessed.
