The Lower House on Wednesday gave
final approval to a law creating the felony of nautical culpable
homicide.
Under the law, people found guilty of the new crime face jail
terms of between two and seven years.
The bill, which was given the green light with 268 votes in
favour and just one against, has already been approved by the
Senate and will come into effect as soon as it is published in
the official gazette.
During the House session in which the bill was approved, several
lawmakers mentioned the case of Greta Nedrotti, 25, Umberto
Garzarella, 36, who were killed by a speed boat driven with a
drunk man at the helm on Lake Garda in 2021.
Nedrotti's and Garzarella's relatives were in the House for the
approval of the law.
