Premier Giorgia Meloni on Monday told
cabinet Monday that the crime and drug ridden town of Caivano
near Naples, where two 13-year-old cosuins were allegedly gang
raped last month, would be "cleaned up" by Italian authorities.
The government aims to "reclaim the (Green Park) area" of
Caivano where the two cousins were allegedly gang raped, said
Meloni, reportedly stressing that "for criminality there are no
free zones".
Announcing her intention to "accept (local priest) Don Maurizio
Patriciello's invitation to visit the site", Meloni specified
that hers "will not be a simple visit: we will offer security to
the population".
And she added that the abandoned sports centre "must be restored
and made functional as soon as possible".
Father Partriciello told ANSA: "I thank God and I thank Meloni".
He added: "I thank the Prime Minister who accepted my
invitation. She showed sensitivity. As a believer I thank the
Lord who gives us the strength to go forward - he added - and
not to give up".
