Premier Giorgia Meloni phoned Vox
leader Santiago Abascal after the hard-right party's
disappointing showing in the Spanish general election Sunday
night, Vox sources said Monday.
In the election, the People's Party failed to get enough votes
to form an expected government alliance with Vox, whose own vote
fell significantly.
The sources said the call between Meloni, who leads the European
Conservatives and Reformists caucus of which Vox is a member,
was "cordial".
Spain's centre-left Premier Pedro Sanchez may be able to form a
government with leftwing and regionalist parties, with the
thinnest of majorities, or another snap general election may be
called.
