Italian police on Monday arrested 82
suspected members of the Foggia mafia.
Those arrested have been charged with drugs trafficking and
distribution and illegal weapons possession.
Police said the organisation, dubbed 'The Firm', had reached a
deal on distributing millions of euros a year in drugs, mostly
cocaine, in the Foggia area.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi hailed the police operation
as showing a "strong response by the State".
Puglia Governor Michele Emiliano said "we have shown that the
State is present in the area".
