Fiorentina on Thursday called on the
Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to hand out an
"exemplary punishment" against English supporters after
Wednesday's episode at the Conference League final against West
Ham United in Prague in which they threw an object at captain
Cristiano Biraghi, causing a head wound that subsequently
required eight stitches.
"Fiorentina strongly condemns what happened to its captain
Cristiano Biraghi during the Conference League final against
West Ham and is certain that UEFA will thoroughly assess the
incident by punishing this gesture as it deserves and in the
most exemplary way possible, so that situations like this do not
occur again," Fiorentina said in a statement.
Fiorentina lost 2-1 to West Ham United at the Conference League
final at the Eden Arena in Prague.
It is the second final Fiorentina have lost this season after
they went down 2-1 to Inter in the Italian Cup last month.
