Four members of Italy's Ultima
Generazione (Last Generation) civil-disobedience group abseiled
down from a bridge on Wednesday to halt traffic on Rome's
'Tangenziale' ring road in a daring stunt that is part of their
efforts to highlight the need to tackle the climate crisis.
As they did so, a group of 10 other protestors blocked the
traffic in the other direction.
The group held up a banner declaring "We Won't Pay for Fossil
Fuels", referring their campaign to stop public investment in,
and subsidies of, fossil fuels, the biggest source of the
greenhouse emissions causing the climate crisis.
Firefighters had to intervene to get the abseiling activists
down.
All the protestors have been reported to criminal prosecutors.
