The European Union must solve the
problem of its energy dependency on other countries, Premier
Giorgia Meloni said in a joint statement with Czech Prime
Minister Petr Fiala after they talked in Prague Wednesday.
Meloni also said she had outlined to Fiala Italy's Mattei Plan
for Africa, named after late Eni chief Enrico Mattei, to boost
development and help stem migrant departures from the continent.
"Security, it means supply chains, security in supplies, being
the owners of your own destiny," she said.
"There is important work that Europe is tackling in the realm of
energy dependency ad which it must resolve.
"I told the prime minister about important work Italy intends to
do together with and on behalf of Europe in its entirety, with
the Mattei Plan for Africa."
She added that "n order to diversify energy production, we have
to involve Mediterranean nations".
