The Italian Coast Guard on Monday
disembarked on Lampedusa 34 migrants and refugees rescued by
fishermen after their boat sank in the Italian search and rescue
(SAR) area.
The rescuers also recovered the body of a man.
The survivors - 26 men, 8 women and 6 minors - and the victim
were subsequently transferred onto a Coast Guard vessel and
taken to the tiny Sicilian island.
They had departed from Sfax in Tunisia on Saturday evening.
Coast Guard and Finance Police personnel were searching the
shipwreck area for possible other dead and missing.
